Our Locomotives

Two Engines, One Railroad

The engine you see here is our Ben Hammer 4-4-0 "American", the locomotive on our shirts and our logo. It is patterned after an 1859 steam locomotive and is currently under restoration, and we are accepting donations for the repair of its boiler.

Pulling the public today is the "Hurlbut", a 1953 4-4-4 steam profile locomotive powered by a 12 hp Kohler gasoline engine.

About Us

A Quarter Mile of Smiles

Pinnacle Peak & Southern (formerly Sahuaro Central Shortline) is an operating railroad museum located in the Adobe Dam Recreation Area in north Phoenix, Arizona. We operate a 15-inch gauge, quarter-scale miniature railroad pulled by the "Hurlbut", a 1953 4-4-4 steam profile locomotive.

Each ride lasts about 8 minutes along our quarter mile of track — and every one of them is free.
